Perimeter protection with an autonomous drone

Arrowtec GmbH is one of the first companies to successfully establish a comprehensive FULL-SERVICE model in the EU for the fully automated use of drones to monitor large terrain areas.

In 2021, the new EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) regulations for the operation of drones came into force. All of Arrowtec's technology is designed for highly automated flight and has successfully obtained over 100 approvals in the European Union in accordance with the "certified manual". This means that Arrowtec no longer needs a pilot to control the drone and the flight no longer needs to be actively monitored (e.g. by the video image). This makes it possible for the first time to carry out surveillance flights 24/7 with minimal personnel requirements and therefore minimal costs.

Arrowtec's full-service model includes the following components. These are offered with (VdS) certified partners.

  1. Project planning with security concept, if necessary combination with existing or new sensors, flight planning

  2. Installation of the DOME charging station and Arrow-401 drone

  3. Start of flight operations 24/7 in accordance with the security concept, automatic detection of perpetrators (intruder detection) using AI / video analytics

  4. Processing of alarms in a VdS-certified control center (intruder detection) with the Flight Automation Center, alerting the police if necessary

The Flight Automation Center is a completely new development from Arrowtec GmbH that enables drones to be used effectively in the security industry. The IoT cloud software enables the control of hundreds of drones in autonomous operation without the need for a pilot. It forms the user interface for the control center, the customer and the maintenance company.

During operation, the Arrow-401 drone system can perform 3 flight modes:

  • Regular and irregular automated patrol flights

  • Alarm verification of sensors (motion detectors, fire detectors, etc.)

  • Manual patrol flights

What are the three most important points for successful drone operation to secure terrain?

  • Full-service model with maintenance etc.

    • No need for a pilot and therefore no high costs for continuous operation

    • Maintenance package - wear parts need to be replaced regularly for many flights

  • Open areas from a perimeter length of 1400 m with corresponding protection requirements (industrial areas, railroad lines, pipelines, borders, critical infrastructure, etc.)

  • Safe and reliable technology: Quadrocopter < 2kg with redundant sensors (2x GPS) and parachute system

    • Heavy drone systems in the 5 - 10 kg range pose a high risk

    • Fixed-wing aircraft have too high a minimum flight speed, which means that the reliability of perpetrator detection using AI is very low

The Arrowtec Arrow-401 drone system can be used in a day/night rhythm and performs other tasks such as the inspection of solar panels. We would be happy to give you a demonstration of the system.
